New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NICO is a string ensemble known for their captivating and original performances. NICO is rapidly capturing attention by making their first appearances at the World’s leading concert venues, amongst which, Leipzig Gewandhaus, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Roundhouse in London, Usedomer Festival, as well as recent appearances on Classic FM, BBC World Service and German Radio Eins, alongside an extensive concert geography across Europe, Asia and the US.

The string ensemble is acknowledged for presenting original compositions by the founding artistic director Gediminas Gelgotas, commonly distinguished for a unique sound world and its exceptional presentation. His music is regularly premiered at the most prestigious European concert halls, routinely aired on Mezzo TV. For those who may think "new music" means something bare and out-of-reach, listening to and watching New Ideas Chamber Orchestra performing Gediminas Gelgotas' luxurious and acclaimed new compositions will transform you into a sophisticated enthusiast. NICO also plays works by Reich, Riley, Glass, Tavener, Pärt, Lauridsen and Hamel, and incorporates some of their stunning transcriptions of traditional composers (Bach, Vivaldi, etc.) into the performances.

“It is amazing how NICO makes their music so accessible and entertaining, turning themselves into the modern classical music equivalent of rock stars. When listening to NICO, you may want to turn inward and meditate, exploring the unexpected worlds they open up - or just get up and dance, infected by their joyous and vibrant ambience. The effect is mesmerising, and the result is inspiring to all ages.” - concert curator Jud Newborn.
